Do you struggle with blood sugar issues, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure? Do you carry extra body weight, or are you insulin-resistant?
Are you frustrated that the medical system rarely, if ever, helps you identify the root cause or causes of chronic disease or the risk factors underlying chronic disease, instead relying heavily on medications?
Are you interested in understanding the root causes of your issues and getting guidance on how to address them?
If so, the Nourished by Science Prevention Program is for you!
Through your membership in our Prevention Program, you will become someone who ...
... understands what their body needs to be healthy and what goes wrong when chronic diseases develop;
... knows how to interpret their lab tests and medical information so that they can make better-informed decisions about their health;
... can identify deviations from optimal health early;
... has the knowledge to identify the root cause or causes of whatever health issues they have; and
... takes action to make sustainable dietary and lifestyle changes to maintain optimal health and well-being.

Why is it so hard for many of us to implement the diet and lifestyle changes that we know we urgently need to prevent chronic diseases and feel healthier?
In more than 25 years of conducting clinical research into nutrition and chronic disease, I have learned why.
In my intervention studies, it became clear that knowledge alone is not enough for most people to make lasting diet and lifestyle changes. My participants also needed a structured program that personally guided them step by step, along with continuous support from professionals and a community of like-minded individuals to share the journey with and feel accountable.

The Nourished by Science Prevention Program is my offer to provide this additional guidance and support to you. Specifically, we provide:
A structured, hands-on, and evidence-based chronic disease prevention program. The NBS Prevention Program offers guided courses (we call them challenges) that tackle the common risk factors for chronic diseases: elevated blood sugar, insulin resistance, elevated fasting lipids, high blood pressure, excess body fat mass, circadian disruption, or inadequate micronutrient intake. In each challenge, you will learn about the specific risk factor, analyze to which degree you are exposed to it, and then experiment with dietary and lifestyle changes that you can maintain in the long run to improve your health issues. A challenge takes two months and is organized like a course that you can go through by yourself, or together with a group of like-minded people.
Live expert support. We offer regular live video calls and live chats with Mario Kratz, PhD, and Katrina Hoch, PhD, an experienced Registered Dietitian. Mario and Katrina coach you along the way through the challenges, and also offer regular calls to discuss the contents of the YouTube videos and answer your other questions about nutrition, health, and disease!
An accountability program to keep you on track.
Community discussion spaces. Interact directly with other community members, Katrina, and Mario. Post questions and share other nutrition-related content, successes, and challenges anytime, and learn from the experiences of others.
Book club. If you want to deepen your knowledge and learn how to evaluate popular nutrition content critically, join regular book clubs where we read, critically evaluate, and discuss a popular nutrition book.

The Nourished by Science Prevention Program is for you if:

No. It is important to be clear that the Nourished by Science Prevention Program does not provide medical care or medical nutrition services. If you have a medical condition, please work with your physician or other medical professional who knows your entire health history before making any changes to your diet, lifestyle, and medication regimen. The Nourished by Science team cannot provide medical or medical nutrition guidance for you in the treatment of a medical condition.
However, if you do have a medical condition, it is possible or even likely that the dietary and lifestyle changes we are encouraging may improve it. However, it is still important that you work with your physician to discuss any major dietary or lifestyle change you make and to manage your medical condition through other means, potentially including medication. It is also possible that your condition improves so that you can reduce or change your medication regimen, so make sure to discuss this with your provider regularly.
The last open enrollment period was from April 27 to May 4, 2026. Enrollment is currently not possible. The next open enrollment period will be in late June/early July.
No. The price you sign up at will never increase as long as you remain a member in good standing, even when the price increases for new members.
Yes. You will need a computer or smartphone with internet access, ideally with sufficient bandwidth to participate in live video calls. For the challenges, it would also be useful to have access to a printer, as we sometimes provide handout materials that ideally are printed out to participate fully in the challenge. To participate in some challenges fully, it would also be helpful if you had devices to measure your blood pressure or blood sugar at home. For blood sugar, these could include a hand-held glucose meter or a continuous glucose monitor (CGM). Please note that membership in the program does not cover the costs of these devices. The offering made in the Nourished by Science Prevention Program is to help you perform these measurements properly, interpret the data, and take steps to normalize any suboptimal readings.
If you’d like to participate in the book clubs, you would need to purchase either the hardcopy or audiobook version of the book (one book every two months), or get it from the library (we’ll let you know two weeks in advance which book will be read.)
Yes. Download the Mighty Networks app and log in with your username and password to access the program on iOS and Android devices.

You can purchase a membership through a web browser on your computer, a smartphone or tablet, or the Mighty Networks app on your Android phone.
You can also purchase a membership on the Mighty Networks app on an iOS device (e.g., iPhone or iPad). However, that option is substantially more expensive due to the high fees charged by Apple for purchases made through iOS apps. We recommend purchasing through a web browser rather than the iOS app. You can still access the Prevention Program through the iPhone app once you have joined.
No, sorry. The program has been designed to help you make lasting diet and lifestyle changes. We have found that benefits do not manifest over the course of a few days, and we'd therefore encourage you to sign up for at least a 2-month period. You can cancel anytime.
You are welcome to use your real-life name and upload a photo of yourself, but feel free to participate anonymously if you prefer. Just use a nickname and upload a photo of your cat, a flower, or any symbol you like.
If you join with a monthly plan and find that the program is not helpful to you, you can leave with a full refund in the first month, no questions asked.
After the first month, we don’t offer refunds on our monthly plans. However, you can cancel at any time. For the annual plan, if you need to cancel at any time, you will be refunded 70% of the prorated annual fee for any month that has not yet begun.
You can choose from two types of plans: monthly and annual. The annual plan comes with a 25% savings. We have made the annual plan more attractive because the power of the Nourished by Science Prevention Program is not in quick fixes but in helping you make small but sustainable diet and lifestyle changes, month after month. We'd therefore like to encourage you to consider signing up for the annual plan, or to switch to the annual plan after the first month or two.
